dnp denmark as eliminates all use of paper in its quality control

dnp denmark produces professional screens in all sizes for projecting. Throughout the manufacturing process, the products go through a constant quality control in order to create the market’s best projecting screens. In order to optimize its production process and quality control, dnp denmark decided to move from a manual paper flow to an electronic flow.

dnp denmark was established in 1989 as a worldwide screen production center for Dai Nippon Co. Ltd – one of the world’s largest media enterprises, with a turnover of more than 13 billion US dollars.

High level of quality control

dnp has always maintained a high level of quality control in which the individual products go through many controls. These controls used to be registered on paper forms, which were filled out and signed by the personnel in charge, and then archived under the individual production order.

From paper to Web

After dnp was introduced to IceBreak, it decided to convert the current paper-based quality control to a workflow using electronic forms. By using an electronic system, dnp has eliminated the time-consuming manual registration and avoids using resources and space for physical archiving and retrieval. With IceBreak it is possible to provide access to all documents on the network using a Web browser. This way, fast, secure access to the documents is ensured. This technology can also be used, for example, to give personnel external access to relevant documents.
The consultancy department at System & Method assisted with developing the application that replaced the paper documents. In cooperation with the people responsible for the project and logistics at dnp, the task was developed by System & Method.

Top Performance

With IceBreak, the existing production orders from dnp’s ERP system Aspect/4 are presented in an IceBreak Web application, where a separate environment includes tables as a supplement to the IceBreak workflow system. This results in response times that are minimal compared to the traditional IBM i™ environment. dnp can upgrade their Aspect/4 application and their IceBreak application independently, without affecting the connection between the two applications.

Direct access to applications from PDA and Scanners

dnp implemented its document solution in phases. The first phase was establishing a workflow in a Web application. In the subsequent phases, PDA’s mobile phones and other handheld units will be supported using IceBreak. Bar code scanners with built-in PDAs give direct access for updating the stock lists. The units will, at all times, have online access to stock information and other systems.

The technology of the future

By selecting IceBreak, dnp denmark was able to optimize its production process and quality development. The key to the perfect interaction is IceBreak, IBM i™ and Web technology. Without any further investment in either hardware or software, IceBreak is ready for the integration of documents and data from existing ERP systems.
